Bringing Hope- Vegas Partner Lounge donates $22,500.00 to Cotlands HIV/AIDS Orphans

In recognition of World Aids Day, Vegas Partner Lounge donated $22,500.00 on the 1st of December 2009 to Cotlands –a South African Non-governmental charity organization and orphanage that offers shelter and care to abused, abandoned, HIV-positive and terminally ill children. By March 2009, the Cotlands organization has placed 197 HIV-positive children in their Gauteng Province branch on Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART), increasing ART uptake by 86%. AIDS is a world-wide pandemic and ¾’s of all the AIDS-related deaths in the world occur in Sub-Saharan Africa. As of a 2008 estimate, 5, 2 million South Africans are living with AIDS, and over 250,000 people died of AIDS in that year, and the numbers are continuously increasing. There are over 1,4 million AIDS orphans in South Africa today, with 70% of these being maternal orphans because of AIDS.

“We are stepping up to the plate and doing our part to raise AIDS awareness worldwide”, says Vegas Partner Lounge’s brand manager Austin Green, “and we believe in the importance of drawing attention to the plight of Africa’s AIDS orphans by contributing to such fine establishments as the Cotlands organization in South Africa. It is only thanks to our loyal online casino players and their continuing contributions that we are able to donate $22,500.00 towards this worthy cause”.

Cotlands was founded in 1936 in Johannesburg, South Africa by Nurse Dorothy Reece, who ran the establishment out of her own home, and has since grown into a nation-wide organization that cares for 3,700 children and their caregivers every month, , currently running a staff of 296 dedicated volunteers and nurses who make a difference every day.
